Zašto biste vi trebali glasati?

Jeste li ikada imali ovu prolaznu misao kada su izbori blizu: “Zašto bih glasao/la? Nije kao da će to nešto promijeniti…”. Danas želim naglasiti koliko je ovo pogrešna pretpostavka. Kao građani, imamo pravo glasati i dužnost to činiti odgovorno, a posebno kao mladi ljudi jer smo mi budućnost.

Prvi i najvažniji razlog zašto biste trebali glasati je zato što je to vaše ustavno pravo. Da bismo živjeli u demokratskoj zemlji, implicitno je da ljudi moraju koristiti svoj utjecaj u upravljanju državom.

Drugi razlog zašto biste trebali glasati je reprezentacija. Koliko puta ste pomislili da ljudi koje vidiš na pozicijama vlasti ne predstavljaju tvoje vrijednosti? Birajući predstavnike koji se slažu s tvojim vrijednostima i stavovima, možete utjecati na odluke koje utječu na tvoj život.

Treći razlog zašto biste trebali glasati je legitimitet. Što je veći odaziv na izborima, to je legitimnija vlast. To je također znak da demokracija funkcionira i da je živa i zdrava.

Četvrti razlog, kao što je već bilo spomenuto, je zato što je to naša građanska dužnost. Kada idemo glasati, ispunjavamo svoju građansku dužnost doprinošenja demokratskom procesu i općem dobru društva.

U europskom kontekstu, puno toga se ne mijenja. Glasamo kako bismo izabrali ljude koji će predstavljati našu zemlju u Europskom parlamentu. Ti predstavnici su ti koji će kreirati nove politike koje će, osim što će biti primijenjene u svih 27 država članica, također odražavati tvoje stavove i pitanja koja smatraš važnima.

Mladi ljudi su budućnost Europe. To je nešto na što se navikavamo slušati, ali u praksi što to stvarno znači?

Važno je uzeti u obzir da sve odluke koje se donose, bilo u europskom kontekstu ili nacionalno, imaju utjecaj na buduće godine našeg života, i glasanjem možemo utjecati na proces donošenja odluka.

Kada se više angažiramo u aktivnom građanskom sudjelovanju, uzimamo svoju budućnost u svoje ruke, sve promjene koje želimo vidjeti za sebe i možda za ljude koji će doći nakon nas udaljene su samo jedan glas. Stoga, ne zaboravi otići glasati 9. lipnja, dodaj to sada u svoj kalendar. Naša Europa, naš glas.

Why should it be important for YOU to vote?

Have you ever had this passing thought when elections are close by: “Why should I vote? It’s not it’s like it’s going to make a difference…”. Today I want to emphasize how this is a wrong assumption. As citizens it is our right to vote and our duty to do it responsibly, more so as young people because we are the future.

The first and foremost reason you should vote is because it is your constitutional right. For us to live in a democratic country, it is implicit that the people have to exercise their influence in the governance of the state.

The second reason you should vote is representation. How many times have you thought that the people you see in governance positions don’t represent your values? By choosing representatives that align with your values and views you can influence the decisions that affect your life.

The third reason you should vote is legitimacy. The bigger the turnout of elections, the more legitimate the government is. It is, as well, a sign that democracy is working and alive and healthy.

The fourth reason, as I mentioned before is because it is your civic duty. When you go vote you are fulfilling your civic duty of contributing to the democratic process and the common good of society.

In the European context, not a lot changes. You are voting to elect the people that will represent your country in the European Parliament. These representatives are the ones that will create new policies that, besides being applied through all 27 Member-States, will as well reflect your views and what issues you think are concerning.

Young people are the future of Europe. It is something that we are getting used to hear, but in practise what does it really mean?

It is important to consider that all decisions that are made, either in the European context or nationally, have influence on the future years of your life, and by voting you can influence the decision-making process.

When you become more engaged in active civic participation you are taking your future in your hands, all the changes you want to see for you and maybe for the people that will be coming after you is just a vote away. So don’t forget to go vote on the 9^th of June, add it now to your calendar. Our Europe, Our Vote.
